We welcome new members at our monthly lectures and should you wish to join our committee, which at present consist of the following, then we would be delighted to hear from you:
The Society meets for talks on local history, 6 times a year. These meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month from October to March and commence at 7.30 pm.Meetings take place at the Kynance Church Hall, Dinas Powys Common and an administrative charge of 50p is made at each meeting, to cover running expenses.The Society also organises two trips each summer to places of local historical interest. We always welcome new members at these lectures.
The Society
The following records include a large collection of copies and transcripts of documents relating to the history of the Parish of St Andrews/ the village of Dinas Powys.

The main sets of documents are

1 Survey of the Royal Manor of Dinas Powys 1601

2 Survey of the Manor of Dinas Powys dated 1693

3 Probate records 1600 - 1850. There is an excellent collection of wills and inventories from the earliest available, dated 1609. They have been copied, transcribed and analysed, with a card index of testators and
beneficiaries. The collection is complete, as far as known, to 1750 and is very full to the mid nineteenth Century.

4 Parish Registers (St. Andrews Major) 1725 – 1810 plus the related Bishop’s Transcripts to 1873We have
photocopies of the originals and these have been transcribed and card-indexed A-Z, thus producing families.

5 Estate Maps relating to the Wenvoe Estate, mid 18th Century.

6 Land Tax Assessments 1784 - 1830. These have been transcribed and card-indexed for the years 1784, 1790, 1795, 1800, 1805, 1810, 1815, 1820, 1826, 1830 .They list landowners, tenants and tax paid for holdings.

7 Tithe Commutation and Apportionment documentation 1841. We hold copies of the relevant maps and schedules.

8 Census Returns 1841 – 1901.

The Society holds photocopies of the original enumerators’ returns for the village of Dinas Powys for all seven-census years 1841 – 1901 inclusive.

The Society always welcomes new material (or copies of it) relating to land,property, individuals, families and events in the Dinas Powys area.
